Albert "Buzz" Cousins RVM (24 February 1923 – 14 October 2024) was a celebrated engineer, Life Member, and long-standing contributor to the Inventors Association of Australia (Victoria) Inc.
Known for his generosity, technical expertise, and willingness to share his experience with fellow inventors, Buzz represented the practical spirit of independent innovation: identifying complex problems, engineering solutions, and helping others navigate the invention journey.
The Electronic Letterbomb Detector
Buzz Cousins engineered the Electronic Letterbomb Detector, a specialised electronic screening device designed to detect concealed explosive components and triggering mechanisms within letters and small packages.
Developed in response to the threat of mail-based explosive devices, the invention represented a significant advancement in security screening technology and demonstrated how an independent Australian inventor could create a solution to a complex global problem.
